The Highest Gift...

...any human being can give another is to teach them something.

A few things have made me think of this recently, one of which was my 3 year old daughter that woke me up at 6am the other day with the biggest grin on her face.  When I asked her what was making her so happy she just said:
"It worked Mommy!"
"What is that, Pickles?
"I ran and ran and flapped my arms just like you showed me and then I was flying!"
See, I had regular nightmares as a small child, so eventually, I learned to fly in my dreams, which always was easier to cope with than... for example getting be-headed. So ever since my kids could talk, we've always discussed their dreams, usually first thing in the morning.
So about four months ago, one of the kids had a nightmare that made him afraid to go to sleep.
Before going to bed hat night, I called all four onto my bed (which is a sign of something important being communicated) and told them about my nightmares as a child and how I learned to fly.  I showed them in dramatic movements how to do it and probably even managed to make it look scientific and explained how learning to fly in your dreams means you never again have to be afraid of bad dreams.

My littlest one flew in her dreams.
And I taught it to her.
How awesome is THAT!!

Thank god you didn't teach her how to fly as described in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy! (for those who don't know: that is a must read, for those who don't recall: it's letting yourself fall over and then missing the ground which needs a lot of practice which again is something you don't want to practice at all but would hope to work out in the first place)

... and yes, it is awesome when something you teach comes to life rather than is just recited.

This is a beautiful story. Lucidity has got to be next right? By the way, I think Mullet-Hole-in-the-Head also learned how to fly today. Thanks for letting me be of help to your eclectic family of coconutheads.
