My New Favorite Animal

Since we're leaving for Dallas this weekend, we're trying to cram in as much "Island Touring" with my friends A&A, that are here from Switzerland on their honeymoon.

So this morning we went snorkeling at Little Bay, Anguilla's worst kept secret spot you can only access by climbing down a 20 foot cliff.  Of course if you're a sissy, then you can alternatively take a boat from the neighbouring Crokus Bay, but seeing how even the kids can make the climb down, there is really no good excuse for that.

The view from above is amazing and so is the underwater view as an incredible amount of sea life lives right along the cliff walls.  It literally feels like you're snorkeling in an aquarium as fish of all shapes, colors and sizes swim past you.

While I usually also see some stingrays or turtles, today I saw something new that I just couldn't peel my eyes off of.  A school of about 40 squid, 1 ft long was swimming right below me.  Their colors changes depending on where they were and whenever the sun hit the water they changed once again, in a split second.  They were very curious and several of them came close to me, while I floated motionlessly in the crystal clear water.  That is until a barracuda showed up, that was after the gigantic school of fish nearby that was so dense you couldn't see the ocean floor.   Only then did I realize that the rest of my snorkel team was nowhere near, since I had spent so much time floating there, checking out the technicolor-dreamcoat school o' squid.

(sigh) The only bad thing about going snorkeling first thing in the morning is that it's incredibly hard to get motivated to do stuff like.... work!
