BondGirl Speaks....Transelated

Hey ...

So I hears you want to hear from and what I think of my stay here on Anguilla..... sure thing!

Not sure where to start.... it began with an email saying that Francie is looking for a nanny.... or rather needing one in a hurry.  Since I was unemployed in Switzerland, I jumped at the chance and responded. One week later I was already in a plane, very spontaneous but I suppose it was meant to be!

I got a wonderful reception after my very long trip, sooo sweet and super nice and I was happy to finally be on Anguillian soil.  Although I left Switzerland with TWO suitcases, I got here with only one, which was a crap way to start my adventure.  I now don't have a single t shirt, bikini, pants etc - very annoying!
Oh well, am now going to buy a new wardrobe and until then am borrowing clothes from Francie.  Would wish it to be different, but oh well, you gotta be flexible

Meanwhile I've been here for over two weeks already, and I gotta say it's not been easy days. Not only 'cause I didn't know the kids etc, but also 'cause EVERYTHING is different here.  I didn't know a single person, couldn't make myself understood very well and wasn't comfortable in my new house, my new bed etc - everything was foreign.  But after these first two weeks I am doing well and think the majority of the culture shock is over and I'm starting to be settled.

With my host family I definitely hit the jackpot.  The four kids are a LOT of work but also veeery sweet and Francie is just amazing.  She's "mega cool" and reminds me a bit of my Mom, which helps as I miss her a lot.  I can talk to Francie about anything and have lots of free time and freedom and have her full support if I'm struggling with anything - very neat!

So after the kids are dropped off at school, Francie goes to work and I take care of the household a bit (which is no longer obvious as soon as the 4 kids walk in the door "smile") then I go to the beach pretty much every day.
My God the beaches are amazingly gorgeous here!  If you're never been here then you can't imagine, if you've been here then you know what I'm talking about.  It's such a dream!
In the past I've never been such a fan of beaches and would always prefer the pool, but here I've definitely fallen in love.  Shoal Bay is the most amazing and I think the most beautiful spot on earth and I'm enjoying every single minute on the ocean.

In the late afternoon the kids come home, or rather I go to pick them up.  At the point where all four are in the car the show starts - haha.  Sometimes it's very loud and very chaotic but we always manage.
On some days, there are people (ahem) who take them to the candy store down the street to buy them sweets.... such as squeaky rubber chickens filled with gum.  Perhaps not the brightest idea, but I think the person in question has learned from her oversight!
At home the kids are only calm and quiet when the laptop or TV is running, which isn't often as they have a lot of chores which usually lasts until "our" Mom gets home again to make dinner.

Besides the four whirlwinds there are also two black and white monsters.  They look all cute and innocent but don't you dare walk by the bed at night 'cause you're feet will get ATTACKED!  And you best be sure to feed them often, otherwise they won't stop following you!
Unfortunately, I came up with another stupid idea, called WET cat food.  Oh well, once a day it's their new standard and at some point even those four-legged creatures have enough and have to switch to dry cat food.  Good thing they're not starving!

What else...  I've been out twice already and plan on going to St. Martin this weekend.  I've had a blast going out even though there isn't any big variety of clubs but the few small places are a ton of fun and the people are great.  Can't wait to hit St. Martin and find out what's going on there!

Even though I've always only driven on the right side of the road, after a few hours or practice I've adjusted quite well and don't think I'm a danger to the public anymore
Oh yeah, our Suzuki jeep is SUCH a luxury vehicle... very special paint job... Francie calls it "three tone" which is grey-black-white and it's also a spontaneous cabriolet since the windows decide to shut (or not shut) at their whim.  So you better hope it won't rain 'cause otherwise you're showered and sitting in a waterbed

So all in all I'm having a blast and I'm excited to be able to spend more time here and I'm curious to find out what other adventures come out way.

Wishing you all the best and sending my regards from Anguilla,

Your BondGirl

Thanks, BondGirl, great to hear from you! Is Francie's translation of "mega cool" accurate?

We look forward to more blogging from you. Have fun!

Ha ha, very funny comment on the suitcase thing.... and I just found out that BondGirl actually DID put my name on her suitcase that was lost. uh-oh!

On the translation.... her exact words were "si isch de Hammer", which literally means "she's the hammer" but is slang for something like "mega cool" and NOT "she danced like MC Hammer".  We did discuss that term over the weekend though and we came up with the English equivalent of "da bomb".

      Singned,

      "da bomb"

And oh, BondGirl, that's a bummer about the suitcase! Apparently you have not learned that whenever you travel via airline to/from/with/near Francie, you are strongly advised to check a "decoy" luggage bag to protect yourself from her bad luck.

How to protect your luggage with a Francie decoy suitcase...

    1) The decoy bag should preferably be an old suitcase with clothes you no longer wear, old IT magazines, real Swiss cheese, unused bottles of hair coloring, etc.

    2) This step is critical - put one of Francie's business cards in the luggage tag, ensuring that her name is clearly visible through the tag window.

    3) Lastly, make sure to check it BEFORE your other bags.

The decoy bag will be lost, but the Gods of Lost Luggage will be appeased and therefore leave your real luggage alone.

NOTE: It has been reported but not confirmed that this works on ANY American Airlines flight, even if the destination and schedule have nothing to do with Francie.
