Knight Rider
Ah yes.... Knight Rider..... I vividly remember anticipating TV time while growing up, back in Switzerland.
Watching TV was exciting as the Swiss channels only operated during 11am and 10pm back then AND because we had strict orders to only watch 1hr of TV a day.
Apparently my brother and I got busted ignoring that rule one too many times while my parents were out, so Dad invented his first method to shut down the TV after the 1hr.
When we cracked that one (i.e. unplugged it), he came up with another way to shut down the TV.
I think the time-locking power cutting device that was drilled into the back of the TV with a lock was the third edition of the "how do we keep the kids from watching TV when we're gone" lock.
Of course, (insert innocent grin) even THAT was no match for my brother and I = two little MacGuiver Jr's.
If I had known about duct tape back then, I surely would have been able to crack the lock with it, but I didn't know, so a coat hanger was delicately placed on just the right wires to bridge the power gap on the elaborate lock on the back of the television.
Yeah, I know, hindsight is always 20/20 and DAMN that was a bad idea all around, but who cares, as we got to watch as much Knight Rider as we wanted to.
So the really long, Bavarian spoof below, of my brother's favorite TV show made me crack up for several reasons this morning.
(Oh and Mom, Dad, my apologies if this is the first you heard of the coat hanger thing - we REALLY wanted to watch TV though.)
