Introducing.....

....our newest pet - Hennessy.

Obviously Hennessy is a chicken and no, the kids didn't name this pet.
But this is where I need your help...

See, Hennessy has been sitting in the below corner of our yard for a couple of weeks, taking care of 9 eggs.
And since we can't possibly come up with 8 more pet names, we could use your help.
Why do we need 8 names for 9 eggs?
'Cause one chick has already been named David, as in David Chicken.

So please, post your baby chick names as comments and I'll publish pics of the babies and their names as soon as they're hatched.

Oh and for my two March visitors, hope you will like your (beeping) parting gift!

Well I just did a google search on "nine names" and the only thing I found was that the nine names of goddess Durga (whatever/whoever she is/was) are:

    1. Shailaputri

    2. Brahmacharini

    3. Chandraghanta

    4. Kushmanda

    5. Skandhamata

    6. Kaatyayani

    7. Kalaratri

    8. Mahagauri

    9. Siddhiratri

Unfortunately none of them are David and they seem pretty long names for chicks so that's no good. If only one of her names had been David! Would have been perfect.

I expect I'd go for something alphabetical because David has already grabbed spot 4. How about: Anna, Billy, Claire, David, Elaine, Fiona, George, Hamish and Imogen or something along those lines? Sorry - I expect someone else will come up with something better than that!

Durga is a bad-ass supreme (not just regular strength) Hindu goddess with demon fighting abilities and represents the embodiment feminine and creative energy.  I love that part but the problem is I'd need a cheat-sheet to remember those names

On the other hand I could just get a permanent marker to label the eggs and chicks once hatched!
Hmmm, great idea, lemme work on that and see if I can chase Hennessy off her eggs.

(no chickens or eggs will be harmed in the making of this blog posting)

Uh, I'm guessing the growling in your tummy isn't allowing you to feel the love for the eggs/baby chicks?

Thanks for the help guys, although I don't think I can run most of those names by the kids.
Unless your intention was to make my kids cry...

And Susan, I think Pickles will officially throw you out of the "new nanny" race if I tell her you named her little future chicks "jerk" and "grilled".

Are you kidding me? While cute (and my daughter would never say "no") I got back-room searched at the airport over a belt. Can you imagine a chick? Maybe if I brought it back in it's egg form...though that would qualify as food and would likely be confiscated. How do you convince someone that an egg is a pet? No wonder you snickered when you mentioned my "parting gift".

    Hagar (ironically means 'flight')
Icarus (o.k. I seem to be on a wing theme now)

Hey, Deb has stolen my alphabetical idea and simply improved it with better names! (though I still prefer George the chick to Genghis the chick)

Don't they say that immitation is the highest form of flattery?
Obviously I liked the idea...just didn't like the names.

    - courvoisier
    - frapin
    - gautier
    - kelt
    - larsen
