Breaking News: Cistern Runs Dry in Anguilla

The Valley, Anguilla (March 12, 2008) - Cursing was heard early this morning in Welches, a part of the Caribbean island of Anguilla, as a turn of the kitchen faucet yielded only loud gulping - but no water.

Despite extensive water conservation, "dry season" often takes it's toll on Anguillian's since only a small percentage of houses on Anguilla are connected to a water system and virtually all islanders depend on steady rainfall to meet their daily water needs.

According to Franziska Tanner-Whitlock, the home's resident, the timing of this event is unfortunate since there are three Canadian visitors currently in the home and there is a high demand for after-beach showers, meal cooking and laundering of sandy towels.

"I've called the water supplier and ordered 3000 gallons but so far I don't have any scheduled delivery time or date", said a frustrated Franziska.  Local sources confirm that specifically during dry season, water delivery may take days, which causes many islanders to get ocean water in buckets for toilet flushing needs and stringent adherence to the "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down" philosophy.

Neither the local water supplier nor the Canadian visitors could be reached for a comment but sources state that the visitors were spotted on Scilly Cay, a small island serving fresh grilled lobster off the coast of Anguilla's Island Harbour.

Something tells me the Canadian visitors are adapting to their hardship fairly well...

There's loads of water down here...uncannily enough, we've had quite a bit of rain. PLus, the water company haven't shut off the water nor reduced the water pressure, so fingers crossed, we keep having a good supply of water during the dry season

...and might I say that fresh grilled crayfish, a swim in the ocean, Sproka's crazy lyrics and Scilly Cay's rum punch beats a morning shower any day of the week.
(oh yeah...and we all voted...Franziska is the best hostess EVER in the history of Canuck vacations taken to Caribbean locations to date; water or no water!!!!)
