"Where in the World....."

...is Anguilla and how do you pronounce it" is something I get asked all the time.

I'd like to think I am pretty good at explaining it's location these days but for those of you I failed to make sense to, here it is on paper, courtesy of google maps.

And Anguilla's pronunciation is NOT Spanish and it sounds like Vanilla - Anguilla.
Per the American Heritage Dictionary:

An·guil·la, āng-gwĭl'ə,
An island of the British West Indies in the northern Leeward Islands. Settled by the British in the 17th century, it was part of the self-governing colony of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla until 1967, when it seceded unilaterally. A bid for full independence led to the landing of British troops in 1969. Anguilla became a dependency of Britain in 1971.

Something that I've said a couple of times when asked where St Lucia is "turn left at Antigua"...simple yet effective, plus it leaves them with a quizzical look on their faces..pure classic! :o)
