Updated: Instructables: Making a Bird Cage
I'm old enough to know, that you run and hide whenever a lawyer approaches you and says: "So, I've got a proposition for you.....", even if he SEEMS ok....
(Update: The previous picture of the "seemingly ok lawyer" has been replaced due to technical reasons legal threats.... well, anyway, here's a better one)
However, if his stunning wife, the loveliest zoo keeper in Anguilla asks you to adopt a pet, you definitely don't have to run and hide, even if you're house (i.e. Noah's arc) doesn't need any more critters.
Turns out that her love birds had babies just before Hurricane Omar hit, and as a result, the babies had to be taken out of the nest. Since the parents wouldn't take them back after being handled by humans, she was stuck feeding them by hand every few hours and now was looking for a good home for one of the birds.

So after we got home with a box of bird food, food and water bowls and a tiny love bird, we went "uh, what are we going to put this thing in"! Then, I remembered that there aren't any problems (including legal) that cannot be solved with cable ties, duct tape and/or super glue. Ok, perhaps a bit of imagination is involved too, but we've got plenty of that laying around this house.
How to make a Bird Cage:
1. Get scissors, super glue, cable ties and duct tape, unless your daughter kidnapped it and hid it in her super secret hiding spot 'cause she's got a somewhat concerning affinity for the stuff.
2. Get anything "basket like" that is woven or has small holes that a baby love bird couldn't escape through.
Don't worry about any big handles, that's what the duct tape is for (as soon as I find it)

3. Line the bottom piece with paper towels and attach the water bottle and feeding bowls with cable ties.

4. Send the kids to get twigs and stick then in holes of the top of the "bird cage", affix with cable ties as needed.
6. Put it all together, insert bird and voila - your very own bird cage.

Now all we need is a name for our little guy, suggestions?
P.S. Anyone in the area and good at building REAL bird cages, please shoot me a note!

Hope it's catproof.

Ok, I tried this "naming the animals after bays" tactic with your darn chicks so let's try again! How about Mimi ? Fantastic bird cage by the way. I think you are in the wrong job. Have you ever heard of Blue Peter? You should be on it.

Blue Peter is a very long running childrens TV programme on the BBC here in England. One of the thing it is famous for is the things they make our of almost anything - washing up liquid bottles, cans, toilet rolls etc.

We have a spare bird cage I could send you but I'm afraid your bird would be old by the time it got to you.
I'm not a good one for names, I usually pick a theme and go with it. The peach-faced lovebird's Latin name is Agapornis roseicollis, you could take some part of that. Agatha, Rose, etc.
