Good News - Bad News: Imagining the Possibilities....
<nerd alert>
Wow!
It's been a LOOOOOOONG time since something geeky blew me away like this!
Check it http://qik.com/akafrancie and see for yourself!
"What, some silly video of poor quality on a website? What's the big deal!", you say?
Oh no! I mean.... oh yes..... and no... lemme explain.
Qik.com allows you to turn your video camera enabled cell phone (various flavours) into streaming live video that's broadcast directly to the internet.
Let me repeat, directly.to the.internet.
Now imagine the next Jimmy Buffet concert at the beach here in Anguilla, while a gorgeous rainbow shows up over the ocean!
Or imagine the next "streaming live" goat traffic jam or tarantula/snake/dolphin/____ (fill in the blank animal) encounter!
Then envision my next iReport during the next hurricane hitting Anguilla!
Or, imagine going house hunting while your husband/wife/partner is thousands of miles away.
Imagine live video of the first day of school at Omololu's new permanent site as a result of your donations!
Envision a campus wide game of "hide and go seek" with people from all over a College campus "live streaming".
Or imagine the next plane crash landing in the Hudson with qik!
Then imagine the next business trip to some interesting destination, the next geek conference or product demo the rest of your team didn't get to attend. Now imagine having a blog and running into someone you've been itching to ask a technical question!
Now I did name this post "Good News - Bad News" for a reason.
Anytime we acquire a technology, an ability, some additional convenience, there's also an additional limitation or loss of something that's part to the equation.
How do you prevent streaming video about the confidential new software features you are presenting to a select few partners?
How would you react if you found out someone filming you while flirting with someone at a hotel bar?
Imagine the hotel raid in Mumbai being streamed live.
"Wow" indeed!

I'm really glad you're amused by that 'cause uh.... yeah, I might have some footage of you.
